Program Description

Location:
City of Baltimore and counties of Anne, Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Carroll, Cecil, Charles, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, Prince Georges, Queen Anne's, and Washington. View map

Program size:
The Maryland program consists of 19 testing facilities across 14 counties and inspects between 1.5 and 1.6 million vehicles each year.

Contract term:
Basic I/M: Began February 1984. Ended December 1994.
Enhanced: Began January 1995. Ends September 2009.

The Maryland program works in close partnership with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration and with the Maryland Department of the Environment to continuously improve its effectiveness and customer service. The Maryland Program is one of the most progressive programs in the country. In addition to providing enhanced (IM/240) and two-speed idle testing, Maryland tests gas caps for all model years and in July 2002 began OBD II testing. The Maryland program inspects between 1.5 and 1.6 million vehicles each year.
