The Ohio program inspects 850,000 vehicles each year.
Contract ends June 30, 2009.
Implemented in 1989 to deliver basic emissions testing services in Cuyahoga County (Cleveland), the Ohio program now covers 7 counties including the metropolitan areas of Cleveland/Akron. Passenger vehicles are the single largest source of ozone pollution in Ohio. With 23 stations, the program provides enhanced emissions inspections in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, and Summit counties testing just under 1 million vehicles annually and reducing 62,353 tons of emitted pollutants each year. In 2006, the vehicle emissions program in Ohio identified 101,200 polluting cars and light trucks and required appropriate repairs. The program is a vital part of Ohio’s comprehensive air quality plan.
