Fraud Protection

ESP takes measures within our centralized vehicle inspection programs to guard against unauthorized access to vehicle test information while a vehicle is being inspected. We further protect that data once it is stored in our host database by limiting the access that is granted to our vehicle inspection data.

The following safeguards are inherent in the design of all ESP centralized vehicle inspection programs, and in the accompanying storage of data on our host computer systems:

  • Inspectors must login to the lane PC and use a special passcode called a "PIN". This PIN identification methodology is a custom written user authentication routine unique to ESP's application software.

  • All oversight functions such as voids, aborts, etc. which would override the normal course of events in the inspection process also require the entry of a "PIN" by a member of the station management staff before the transaction can be completed. Station management PINs are granted a higher level of privileges than inspector PINs. This higher level of privileges is what allows station management personnel to override transactions.

  • Once data has been stored in the database on the host computer system, access to that data is restricted by login validation routines. Most authorized users are granted read-only access to the data. Access to sensitive information such as employee data is completely denied to the normal user. Only those users who are members of the engineering or data processing user groups are granted a higher level of access, which allows them to view or modify sensitive data.
